Description:

MICKY SLIM: www.myspace.com/thatboyslim

As one of the most charismatic individuals to smash his way onto the house music scene in recent years, Micky Slim is the Birmingham-bred bad boy that has arrived and is ready to take over. For if 2005 was the year clubbers started murmuring about that boy Slim, then 2006 was the year they started shouting it from the hilltops. And who can blame them? With an outstanding production portfolio that has had a phenomenal success rate of being heard on BBC Radio1, an international residency that gives Micky global exposure, and a few helping hands (more later), its clear that Micky is not just one of the UKs finest up-and-coming talents, he is getting recognition the world over.

Although Mickys love affair with house dates back over ten years, it was only two years ago that things really started to happen for him. After playing various bars and clubs around the midlands, Micky rented the Canal club in Wolverhampton in April 2005 to host a Tsunami fund raiser. The night proved a monstrous success and repeat bookings at the venue gave Micky the chance to shine alongside the likes of Yousef, Jose Nunez, Richard F and Tom Neville. At the same time Micky was making a big impact on the Birmingham after hours scene, which gave him the chance to develop his style and make his sets even more unique.

The wheels however properly turned when Mickys quickly growing fan base came to the attention of Godskitchen promoter Mark Gillespie. Gillespie was quick to install Micky as Godskitchen Electric resident, a very special moment for Micky especially considering he had been a regular at the club from its beginning at the Sanctuary and had attended every one of Godskitchens colossal Global Gathering festivals. Mickys Gods residency has seen him play regularly to a rapturous home crowd alongside the likes of Erick Morillo, Chris Lake, Richard Dinsdale, James Zabiela and Fergie, as well as debut at Global, which he achieved in July. Almost 50,000 people converged on the festival at Long Manston Airfield near Stratford Upon Avon with Micky playing in the same arena as Deep Dish, Steve Lawler and Tiesto. And with James Zabiela stuck in traffic, the BBC gave Micky the opportunity of a lifetime by recording his set for broadcast on the Essential Mix. Micky duly responded by delivering 45 minutes full of filthy acid, wonky electro and twisted tech house to a worldwide audience. This is without doubt the finest moment in Mickys career to date. Such exposure has resulted in major interest from throughout the UK and abroad -- deserved credit for such a memorable performance.

2006 has seen regular gigs in Poland where Micky has played at Piecarnie in Warsaw, Pepper in Bydgosczcz and the OCE festival also in Bydgosczcz. July saw Micky play Sunrise festival in Kolobrzeg which is the Polish equivalent of Global Gathering. Micky has been fortunate enough have secured a few gigs at the mighty Lush in N.Ireland, an achievement he extremely proud as Mickys dad is Irish & he feels the Lush atmosphere is undoubtably one of the best in the world. He has even been lucky enough to play at Space B2B with Radio1s Mark Trophy for Kissdafunk this summer

If 2006 wasnt big enough already for Micky, then the cherry on top comes courtesy of the creation of his own record label, Bomb Squad Records, which came to fruition earlier this year. The labels first release was the awesome Acid Is The Bomb, which came with a Jon Gurd remix. It achieved considerable success following major support on Radio1 from Fergie. Micky will follow this up with the release of Wow in September, another superb effort and a clear sign that if Mickys DJ & production career is anything to go by, this label is set to make a huge impact. A collaboration with Chris Lake titled Shake (due for release on Rising), as well as remixes of Calvin Harris Girls, DJ Grad Piano 99 (Rising Trax), Seb Fontaine & Jay P Do The Do, Jaydee Plastic Dreams (Incentive), Chad Lewis Raw Kemistry (Groovedigital), and Adonis Rockin Down the House (Simply Vinyl), have all received tremendous support from Radio1 and are set to raise Mickys profile yet further.

"Micky's rise in the midlands has been nothing short of phenomenal this year, his standard of production is excellent and i think he is definitely someone to look out for in 2006 - he has my full support." Nic Fanciulli on Micky Slim

SASHA & JOHN DIGWEED (BACK TO BACK)
UK FESTIVAL EXCLUSIVE

The heat has just been cranked up this summer as London’s No.1 Dance festival South West Four can reveal that dance legends Sasha & John Digweed will be this year’s official headline act. Playing a UK Festival Exclusive B2B set, SW4 is the only festival in the whole of the UK where you’ll get to see both DJs playing together. Sasha & John Digweed will be closing the day’s events with a climatic final set on the main stage, as the day turns to night and the real fireworks begin!

2009 marks the 6th year of South West Four and the 5th year in a row for Bedrock supremo John Digweed. Quite simply a SW4 legend, John has played all but one of our festivals on the Common and remains very excited about making it 5 not out this summer... “It’s fantastic to headline this year’s SW4” says John. “I’ve been very lucky to play at nearly all of them, so this should be extra special. It’s a very well organised event that brings out a really cool crowd, and the line-ups always feature the cream of electronic talent. It’s not often you get to play a big outdoors gig in the centre of London and each year it seems to sell out quicker!!

Having featured in DJ Magazine’s Top 10 poll for 10 consecutive years, John has pioneered the progressive and electronic house movement since the early 90’s, via his beloved Bedrock parties and headline-grabbing shows all over the world. It was way back in 1993 when a certain Alexander Coe (aka Sasha) heard his demo that the pair first met... and the rest as they say is history. The duo’s residency at Twilo and the Delta Heavy Tour in the US are the stuff of legend and their epic Northern Exposure CD (released 1996) is still widely regarded as the greatest mix compilation ever made.

Sasha has a similar up bringing in music to John, and like him was instrumental in evolving the progressive house scene. A Grammy nominated artist and acclaimed producer, Sasha has released some of the most memorable compilations of all time through cult labels Renaissance and Global Underground. He’s recently released the Invol2ver album through GU and was one of the first DJs to use Ableton technology in his sets. South West Four holds a special place in his heart having headlined the first ever festival back in 2004. He was back by popular demand to headline again in 2005 and now after 3 year absence... the mighty Sasha is back at SW4 this summer, and back with John Digweed!

“We don’t do that many festival shows together” continues John, “so we’re both really looking forward to SW4 as London is the clubbing capital in the UK and the crowd really know their music. We never really plan anything, but I’m sure there will be some surprises in our set!”

MARCEL WOODS:
Don't put Marcel Woods in the same room as a box. Chances are the box won't make it out alive. Boy does he hate those boxes!

"It's nothing personal" explains Marcel, "I just can't stand being put into them. People try to define my sound, style and influences down to just one or two genres, but if you've heard me then you'll know that's impossible. But the result is a severe hatred of boxes. Boxes and pigeon-holes. I don't like pigeon-holes either to be honest. I just don't fit into them, never have and never will."

Exactly what doesn't fit is Marcel's mind-blowing mix of raw and energetic dance music. Dancefloors and festivals have fallen before him in swift succession. Global Gathering, Mysteryland, Dance Valley, Trance Energy, Gatecrasher Summer Sound System, Escape Into The Park, Planet Love and Sanctuary just in one summer run! And possibly more than anything else underlining Marcel's diverse nature, 2008 saw him become the only DJ ever to play the White AND Black Edition Sensation parties in the Netherlands.
